Heat exchanger
Maag's heat exchangers can be used either as pre-heaters or coolers. They control polymer melt temperatures at viscosities as high as 100,000 Pa s. Alternating right- and left-hand helical elements form a unique pattern that simultaneously divide the flow and provide radial mixing. These mixers are particularly effective with uneven temperature distributions and insufficiently mixed color concentrations.
This technology prevents premature vaporization of volatiles in the product, thereby significantly improving the overall heat transfer to allow for a more compact and economical design.
Advantages
- significantly improve heat transfer rates to or from polymers and other viscous products
- three to seven times the rate obtainable through an “open tube” (no blendrex elements) design
- provide a shorter product residence time
- blendrex tube is a “plug flow” device
- tubes eliminate localized “hot spots,” and provide uniform temperature profile across the tube section
- contain alternating helical elements to obtain high performance capabilities
- using a proprietary analysis program, the proposed design may be evaluated for flow distribution through the bonnets and tubes to eliminate stagnant flow areas and reduce residence time
- all product wetted surfaces can be electropolished in order to minimize product "hang-up" and degradation in the unit
- Maag Pump Systems patented “Two Phase Flow Technology” (U.S. Patent #5,785,808) may be employed to provide heat transfer in applications where volatiles are to be removed from process streams.
